The epi embassy is an awesome bass! Super versatile, light & well balanced, beautiful looking i have the wanderlust green. The bassbuckers provide killer tone! With the embassy bass you get all the joys of the Thunderbird sound with none of the thunderbird pain! Im predominately a shortscale player, the embassy is the only longscale i own, it plays and feels like a shortscale! Love this bass!!!!!

I played a used one at the local GC once and had the same sensation - I actually double-checked to see if it was a short-scale Newport that had been mislabeled. (At GC? NEVER! )

Neck felt great, too… and I normally don’t get on with a painted neck.

I agree with everything that's been said - really great basses, and very versatile as well. I have no idea why they aren't more popular. The early ones had bridge location problems that didn't allow for proper intonation, but that was corrected and haven't heard about any issues since.

Agree 99% - except that I find Thunderbird more comfortable than Embassy. Maybe it's my height, maybe it's the thinner neck of the Bird.

You are the exception, most find the ergonomics of the thunderbird frustrating to say the least, myself included!

I got what I suppose it it's little brother or maybe not, it's the Newport it took an age to set up because it had terrible fret buzz out the box (but based upon previous reviews I was kinda expecting that). It's got such a retro sound that I can't help but love it. If the bigger brother has all the charm of the Newport, I'd say you're onto a winner.

I have owned multiple epiphones over the years, i always have felt that epiphone gives you a lot of bass for the money!

Mine is very light for a full scale bass, 8lbs

This bass is on my GAS List and it's only $500 new. I recently played one and compared it to a new Epiphone '64 Thunderbird. The Embassy sounded more like a Thunderbird than an actual Thunderbird! I was shocked! What's more is that both the Thunderbird and the Embassy were the same shade of green. They could have been siblings.

I LOVE the looks of a Thunderbird, but the ergonomics did not work for me.

If i laid my thunderbird across the rear seat of my car in the case, i couldnt close the rear doors, that with the neck dive and the long reach for the first couple frets was too much for me!

I LOVE the looks of a Thunderbird, but the ergonomics did not work for me.

I always loved the look and sound of the old Thunderbirds played by bassists in Mott the Hoople, Wishbone Ash,etc, but didn’t like the feel of them at all when I got to try them out. I lucked into getting a ‘67 Embassy and it had an even better version of that sound in a somewhat more user friendly configuration. (It still had a neckdiving long reach, and the neck size at the nut was absurdly narrow connecting to a yuge headstock begging to be snapped off at a moments notice). I sold it after a few years when I got the hots for Rick 4004 models.
When the Embassy Pro was released, I got a white one, and it was amazing for the price. It retained a lot of the original sound and flavor,
especially the pickups and the mahogany body and set neck, but the improvements in the playing ergonomics were major. It had one of the most perfect size necks I’ve played, and I greatly prefer the 2+2 headstock and VBT control setup.
I sold it-not because I wanted to, but was trying to downsize my collection. I still think it was one of the best basses I’ve owned.

I actually love the blend with the volume and tone on my Newport, never had a guitar that did that before.
I love it so much that I converted my Squire Rascal and threw the selector switch out and added an MN series instead.

4004s are as very rare lately, so I guess this is close enough tonally?

Y'can get that with a Jazz and any other number of basses, not that its bad at all, but I just like the idea of sweeping your pickups. Some say that playing it takes an extra second than a switch to get the pickup selected and it's imprecise but that didn't stop the likes of Jack Bruce and others back in the day. Maybe it's anachronistic now and you can get the same with a VV/TT but that's even harder to find the mix you want on stage compared to a good old blend.

Here's my modded Embassy with Gibson Supertone 2-point bridge and Hipshot Xtender. I did not like the original bridge on the Embassy at all. No individual saddle height adjustment. Other than that.... it's a fantastic, unique sounding bass that only weighs 7 lbs, 6 oz.

Aha!! I recently got the identical Embassy, and love it! Changed the tuners for Gotoh’s, and like you, not a fan of the bridge. Does that bridge drop right in? And does it cover all of the previous holes? Looks great!!
