sometimes, life comes around in full circles in strange ways.. 17 days back i received my (first) dream bass!
You know i always think am average bass player with average means but with occasional bouts and a interesting mix of luck, hard work and discipline. I was a teenager when i joined talkbass and generally got to see amazing basses on the intenet.. and now i got me one!
Right here on talkbass many years back i saw a thread by @miziomix in the luthiers' forums with beautiful ideas and pictures which gave me an insight into his style of building and i loved the some amazing new tiny little details and some massive game changing innovative ideas he was working on!
the bass has so many custom details that i always forget to list them all! but here is the crux of it
33" scale 24 frets
swamp ash body
buck eye burl top (with crazy void filling scenes going on)
birdseye maple fingerboard
flat radius
curly maple/paduk/rock maple/ wendge/ RM / paduk / curly maple neck reinforced with extra rods on the inside so my crazy indian weather wont budge the action every 2-3 weeks like it does on every other bass i have seen here except this one!!
bartolini dual coil pickups
obp3 preamp
maurizio's own headpiece design
Maurizio's "standard" ETS bridge and tuners
extra dose of YUM
It sounds and plays like it looks to me.. Really really beautifully that is!! lowwww action, amazing playability again, feels very well balanced and i love the tone! more on this later! i will make a video soon explaining everything that is going on in here which standard hidden uber jay basses magic!!
There is a lot to talk about when it comes to this bass, it was an amazing process.. maurizio ie @miziomix is a great guy and you can really get into the details with him! he always has great ideas and solutions and knows how to put them together and most importantly what to avoid and then how to make it all look gorgeous! way too cool for me! the body shape was a first too!! i suggested some changes and the luthier extraordinaire after some deliberation he said OK ! YESS!! there is really a lot about this bass but my little niece is here and she wants us to get food so am jumping out now! very grateful to now have this amazing bass with me!!
