Epifani 212 UL series 2

I found one of these at a local store for $250. I did a search and lots of stuff about the 310 and 410s but not much about the Epifani 212 UL. I have a 400RB IV amp and a GK 115 and SWR Henry 8x8 cabinets which both sound great but they are very heavy. I'm interested in the 212 UL because it's supposed to be near 50 lbs, but I don't want a scooped sound, I like good mids. Anyone know what this 212 UL2 sounds like?

For $250, I'd snag it and make it work. I use the 3x10 (...it's "6" better) and it's very well balanced. The 400RB should make it sing.

I dont have any experience with Epifani's 212 but the house rig at a weekly jam I go to is their 310 with an Ampeg V4B, and it sounds excellent. I have to imagine the 212 sounds just as good if not even better.

I know speaker size doesn't really tell you much about how a cabinet will sound, but both of my go to cabinets are 212s that i really like. I missed the boat when Epifani was more popular but I really like how their 310 sounds. I'd like to hear what your experience is with the 212.

Puts on nerd glasses.... "Well Actchually...." Area = pi * r^2. Given that we are comparing we can factor out pi since it is present in both numbers. So compare 3* 5^2 = 75 vs 2* 6^2 - 72. So you are only 3 better. Although none of that accounts for how much the speaker actually displaces so.... everything I just said is also all crap. Seriously buy the damned cab. That's a steal.

Asking people for an opinion on cabinets is really tough. Some people love cabinets that don't appeal to me at all. Too many cabinets enhance the low end and decrease the mids and highs. I've used a GK 400 or 800RB for years and I like transparency in my tone and find some cabinets color the sound so much Its a chore to EQ my way to good tone. I am of the opinion that with bass and particularly with upright bass the speaker cabinet is the most important element. If the price is right you can try it and dump it if you don"t care for it. If you can find a used Bag End 15 you may like it's transparency and the weight is 44 pounds at 8 ohms. Just a suggestion.

I agree completely, which is why I specifically asked about the mids, not if people liked it or not. I got super lucky and bought my SWR Henry 8x8 just on a whim because I found it cheap, but it is by far my favorite cab ever. I just plug my bass into the 400RB with all the tone knobs at noon and its exactly what I like. The problem is it weighs 100lbs so its never going to leave the house anymore. I'm not trying to find a cab that sounds identical to the Henry, just something close enough that is also lighter and cheap, I dont play enough to justify new or even expensive used gear. I'm going to take a chance on this 212 UL and see what happens, maybe I'll get lucky again.

I will, but the store is about an hour and a half away, I have only seen it on their website. I plan to bring my amp and play through it this weekend. I just wanted to get a feel if it was even worth going to try out if it was super scooped or something. It sounds like its worth making the drive to try it out.

I used that cab for years, on a variety of gigs including some very loud settings with no FOH. Huge bottom, clean, clear mids and the desert island cab for me (when I needed something that big). I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't love that cab.* I'd celebrate getting one of them for $250.

*Mine is covered in rat fur, which might be a problem for some depending on the condition!
