Double Bass Epifani UL 410 series 2 for upright?

I've been playing with a loud group lately and need some serious cabinet; my well gigged pair of acme B1s are not enough. I borrowed a third last week and was pretty impressed by the massive lowend that worked well with the setting. I've got a chance at an Epifani UL 410 series 2 4x10 cab for almost nothing- less than I can get another secondhand B1. I believe this is a neo cab- so maybe 60 lbs.; not a problem & likely a huge increase in volume.

I'll likely use my Acoustic Image Focus head, so there should be plenty of power.

How is the sound of these bigger cabs compared to coming off the acme?

At the time Epifani was the one of “new” lightweight neo cabinets their main competition came from Euphonic Audio and Acme. The EA VL 208 is a incredible DB cabinet if you can find one. I really liked Acme Low B’s Andy used to build 4x10’ as well.
Compared to those cabinets the Epifani is more suited to EB than DB.
All those cabinets were superseded by Duke LeJunes Thunderchild’s or the MAS 4x6’s which are coming up for sale used frequently. Just my take of course if you’re getting a great deal on the Epifani then maybe that’s the way to go. I played outdoor jazz and rock concerts with a TC-112 and my Walter Woods Ultra.

I used to use 4x10’s a lot as a 1 cab solution for almost all my gigs with drums. Saying that, the Epifani might be rather mid scooped. Whether or not you like it in a mix with the band is up to your ears. If your getting it for cheap I say go for it. You can always flip it if you don’t like it.

Dirt cheap; less than a set of new Spiros...

I don't need cork sniffer approval, just something I can leave at the rehearsal space and make sure I can hear myself above a well buzzed drummer. There are a few bigger local cabs around that I can just drive over and pickup, so I was looking at the 4x10 Epi and also a GK 4x10 neo for the same price. Weight is not a concern; volume is, so the big boys are an easy solution.

I've owned probably 25 different cabs in the last ten years and always gravitate back to acme, so I may just grab another & go with the sound I'm used to, just more of it.

The mid scoop might actually work nice with a piezo equipped upright. As always, I think the best advice is try before you buy.

I don't have UL 410, but I have Epi DIST 210. It works great with EBG, but it's not my preferred option for (electric) upright. The mid scoop and huge lows are little too much for my instrument. I prefer mids-forward cabs like Bergantino CN112 and Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T... My 2 cents.

For a practice space the Epifani should be fine and for bass guitar in particular they sound fabulous. As others have mentioned there is a fairly pronounced scoop in the mids which can be a big problem on DB, especially on boomy stages. I've used my UL310 in a pinch live and wasnt thrilled ith it but it was workable. In a rehearsal space? Should be fine.

He used a Eden 4x10 here in St. Louis. It's not something I would try and he sounded way better through a MAS 4x5 that I lent him.
