I've seen 1N5819 mentioned online. It might be best to experiment. Shottkys are known for their low forward voltage, so I guess any would work.

Much like pickup choices...torn between this and seymor duncan blackout eq.
I installed 1N5819’s in my Epi today. MAN Whatta tone! I removed the capacitor and installed these 69’d inline between the center pole of the tone pot and the ground wire spot in the back Place of the tone pot. It comes into full effect by rolling the tone knob off. I paired it with my Sansamp VT Bass pedal and into my little peavy 112 and it literally sounds just like Jack Bruce.

Your quick on the updates. Ive had my 9 months and just think of mods. Probably do pickup this summer (will have stuck with playing bass for a year so awarding myself..younger self played few months and then my old bass went into closet. Love the short scale and neck on eb0 and its kept me playing. Glad i decided to play again and traded for it).
I need to learn soldering. Thanks for pic it helps me to see what mod looks like.

I’ve had mine for about 3 years. Picked it up for around 90 bucks from a Craigslist post. I didn’t like the original Epi pickup because it was so fat that it almost had no tone so it just sat unplayed. Then recently, I got the idea to get some jack Bruce tone outta the ole girl and that’s what got me going. I’m no pro with the soldering iron but man it’s a good time and has yielded some good results.

Is it still stock strings? Mine still has stock with the red fabric ends.
Before fuzz, did you notice if model 1 had more tone options than stock or not enough time with it before fuzz mod? Wonder how doing push/pull to have fuzz on demand but still tone when no fuzz wpuld work. Or add extra pot for fuzz/tone/vol controls (would that even work?)

No mines got some cheap round wounds that were once painted red. Do you know if they make strings for short scales because they need to be tapered to correctly fit in the tuners? These were not and there’s a lot of string wrapped around the tuner posts. I used the stock and Model 1 pickup plenty before the fuzz mod and yes the model 1 has way more tone than the stock pup. It’s also much quieter when not being played. That’s a great idea for a push pull tone/fuzz knob. I find the the EB0 can roll of plenty of treble depending on hand placement, kinda like a p-bass.
Yes lots of short scale strongs. My guitarcenter or local instrument store doesnt carry them few times ive checked but can get them online. Have heard long scales can start unwinding if cut for short scale but not sure of always happens. Some strongs also can have too much winding so it sits wrong on bridge and messes up string sound...but dont recall if long scale or btand of short scale. Can usually google eb0 strings and find comments on amazon or other sites if strings fit the bass.
A lot recommend flats instead of roundwounds for eb0s...but ive never heard or played a flat in real life to know. Then too many brands to randomly buy for me. Ones i remember mentioned for eb0 are roto 77 shortscale flatwound, labelle deep talking flats shortscale or daddario chromes short.
Ive read way too much about eb0 for mine still being stock.

Do you know if having a bridge pup makes that much of difference in sound for these little basses? I’ve sometimes thought about getting one and wiring it on or maybe just saving $1200 and getting a Gibson shorty on sweetwater with both pickups.
Ive never got to play around with a gibson sg or eb3 so no clue in real life what it might sound like. 
Most people seem to mod them to be like eb3s or gibsons that have moni humbucker bridge pickup.

DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pickup at the bridge with separate volume and tone pots. Put the 3 position switch where the jack used to be and put the new jack on the bottom edge of the body. I already loved my lil' eb-0 but now I have a much greater range of tones to play with. Two more paychecks and I'm getting a Hipshot bridge!
I dig the tone you're getting @Mo Boogs. I'm sure some of that color is coming from the Ampeg as well, nice amp.

Are the strings tapewound? Look like etb92s tapewound I just put some on my eb0. Only played dead roundwounds before. Feels like it took away the muffle and and gives me lots of thump and more tone even when play flat eq on my rumble 40 (vintage on). No clank. Tried to record before and after but didnt work. Just upgraded bridge so trying new strings. Liking them so far.
Yes, they're D'Addario tapewound. I bought an Epi Viola bass that had them on it and I was so impressed that I bought a set for the EB. They're so smooth you'd think I was playing a fretless bass (especially on the Viola) and easy on the fingers, too. I've gone black and I doubt I'll ever go back!
I use the D'Addario ETB92 Nylons on everything. They really are some of the best Nylons.
I am going to install two diodes myself in my old Epiphone EB-0.
Can you tell me what you did beside to add the two 69nd Diodes?

You’re gonna love it! The other thing I did, and I’m not sure how much of difference this will make because I never tried em without the diodes, is I replaced the original mudbucker pickup with the Dimarzio DP120 Model One. https://www.musiciansfriend.com/acc...ker-pickup?rNtt=Dimarzio bass pickups&index=5
This adds a little more definition and punch than the original Epiphone pickup. I had to use a router to widen out the cavity a little for that pickup to fit.
