Epiphone Grabber

I like the single coil sound. I'm not really crazy about humbuckers outside of MM pickups in the sweetspot.

I think it would've been cool if they did 2 t-bird pickups stacked on top of eachother with a 4 way rotary kinda like Serek does with some of their basses. Maybe with a push/pull coil tap option.

I bought one off sweetwater and gigged it over the weekend. 4 hour tin roof gig and then used it on 1 set at a wedding the following night.

Fit and finish was really good. Neck and frets were really well done. Finish on the neck very nice. Similar to the Adam Clayton Jazz bass I have.

Very slight neck dive. I’ll probably put hipshots on it eventually but with a normal strap I didn’t have any issues.

Sound wise I love it. I normally play a USA Lakland PJ and the grabber is more aggressive and the mids are a little higher frequency. The bottom end is really huge and pretty tight.

The coil tap is pretty useless in a live setting but just adjusting the tone and volume it covered everything from Garth Brooks to KISS to Chappell Roan playing through an HX Stomp and Fender Bassman.

Anyone know if the pickup in the Epi Grabber is same as the BassBucker in recent model Gibson Les Paul Jr. Tribute DC Basses?

Highly unlikely, as the pickup dimensions and the screw layout are different. Epiphones own description of the pickup is just "Epiphone Bass Humbucker", so basically it could be anything that they've found from their Chinese warehouse.

Yesterday I saw online that the Grabber was available in a shop about an hour away. So I drove down this afternoon to take the chance to grab it.
First impression: it is not the lightest bass but the body is also not the smallest. Checked the strings, they were brand new (fresh). I connected it to a Orange TB 500 and the fitting 112 cab and was expecting great things, But the sound was dull and had lots of midrange. Not Impressive at all. I played it with a pick, just to note that. I changed the bass rig to a Laney Digbeth 500 plus fitting 410 Laney cab. Like the Orange I know the Laney head and dialed in some highs and adjusted the mids. This amp / cab combination worked better for me but I just don't like that pickup. That sound just does not "shine" in any way. The toggle of the pickup is not realy helpfull cause by switching backwarts the sound gets so thin that I don't think anybody will use ist that way.

I played the bass quiet a long time because I wanted to like it !!! But for 1049,- Euro.... I don't like to say it but that's way to expensive. I like the look but 1000 bucks just for looks... nope. I took the bass for a last test to a 410/210 Markbass cab and Markbass vintage head test. Switched to fingerstyle and that sounded better than with the pick. I am afraid I will wait for the hopely soon released Epiphone G3 sig. model.
I really wanted ti like it.....

Disappointing. I've always liked the look/vibe and was very interested in this once they became available, but the reviews in combination with the asking price makes me think I'll be waiting until they're available used at $500 - 600 m/l and even then I'll need to have an opportunity to play around with one to see if the sound and playability work for me or not. At $1K with all the mixed reviews that's just a bridge too far for me.

The one I tested was rather heavy.
What’s considered heavy bass these days? Myself, any bass over 9 lbs is heavy…
