I dont have one but have played it and the epi set neck ebo3 basses. The ebo looks and feels better to me but then I'm not a les paul guitar fan either and much prefer SG. That said, the epi les paul bass is well made, a bit heavy, and can get very good tones. Id add a two band preamp to it if I got one. Id add that or a 3band to any passive bass I got though. Lol. If you get a chance to try one, do, that'll help you decide. A basic problem with all basses and guitars that dont have an extended top horn is balance and reach to the nut. Those like the LP & Tbird as a result have a further to nut reach when worn then most 34 scale basses, it also contributes to neck dive. Sound wise I thought that les paul bass sounded better then the ebo3 bass. A closer to basic soapbar pup type voice char then the SG basses get with their mudbucker and mini humbucker pups.
In that price range Id also try Ibanez SR300 and the ESP Ltd EC-104 Bass Guitar. The latter being a les paulish shaped bass by them which has imo better sounding pups and the advantage of onboard 2band active eq. But if you prefer passive the epi ight be better choice with or without pup change depending on personal sound pref.
