Epiphone Viola Bass

What do people think of the very reasonobly priced Epiphone Viola bass?

I've always wanted one, and no i ahve found one for just £250.

Is this a good price? and does anyone have any advice?

thanks, MB

They are full scale (34") and are not hollow. Those are two things that are distinctly unlike any other "Beatle bass". They neck dive pretty badly. I was not impressed with the sound. They look pretty cool, but if you want a Beatle Bass, the Jay Turser or Hofner Icon models are more what you're looking for. The Hofner is the best sounding but it's another 100$ more then the Epiphone and Turser. I have a Jay Turser, and it's not a bad instrument at all. I regularly gig with it. The truss rod turns smooth, the bridge is stable, etc.

No, They are SHORT SCALE... not 34", Not the Epiphone Viola... 30.5", I believe... and semi-hollow like many of the other Beatle-basses... There was another Epiphone violin shaped bass that you may be thinking of... T he Epip Viola was my first bass, and I still love it. Neck dive is not really an issue with a decent strap, and I love the sound (My Birdsong is at the shop for a setup, so I was playing my Epi Viola at school with my jazz kids. Forgot how much I LOVE the sound...). It is a great instrument... I payed $250 for mine (on sale from $399 USD)... I'll let you do the math. I do not regret the Epiphone though... I still love it.
