eq help

Need help eqing my set up for progressive rock! My set up is ibanez srx390 4 string bass, gk 700rbII amp, ampeg 410 hlf, mxr 10 band eq, and tech 21 3 channel stomp box/di box. I get too much low end in drop d flat on the heavy e string. I use rotosound long scale swing bass 45-105 strings. Any suggestions?? Need help asap!

Yes, in truth, the positions of EQ faders are nearly impossible to recommend to you. Your circumstances (bass, amp, pedals, room, etc) are so specific that you quite simply have to just experiment to taste, and you will get closer and closer to an ideal sound for what you hear in your head.

Another thought occurred to me (two in one day - a new record!) - have you tried taking your amp and cabinets to a good amp technician? I had an amplifier built for me a few years ago by a local amp tech, and when we were getting close to the end of the build he asked me to bring in my guitar so that he could get the amp exactly right for me. I plugged in and played, and he made adjustments while I said "Mm, a bit more bass... a bit more definition in the mids... etc, etc". After about 15 minutes of playing, he had fine tuned the amp to my liking, and it plays absolutely beautifully!

Good luck getting there. :)
