How do I do it? When I play by myself at low volumes or am in a recording mix, I never have issue with cranking out in the upper register, but when playing live and at practice/ rehearsals/ jams, I find it hard to find a volume and tone where I can be heard in the lower register but not be ear-piercing starting at roughly C on the G string. When I practice by myself, I get a lot of really nice dynamics on my playing and can really unleash whatever it is I am feeling, but when I try to do this stuff in other circumstances I can't really get into it because it sounds too shrill and loud. It isn't because the piece doesn't work in the song -- it is definitely because of volume / tone.
My setup is a P-bass -> Kustom KXB500 -> Rumble 112s (tweeters off). The Kustom head is great and sounds perfect when used for recording, so I know the amp isn't the issue. I use the cabs for guitar too and so I assume it isn't them either. It must be a problem with stage sound/volume.
