EQ Pedal

Hi there,

I'm looking for and EQ to use as the last pedal of my chain.
It has to be a pedal and not a rack,because they're way more practical.
I'll use only for live gigs.
Nowadays I use a 2011 Les Paul standard and a Fretless bass that is a bit of a Frankenstein, and the following pedal chain:

Sadowsky DI (always on)>MarkBass Compressore (always on)> Barbershop

I don't use amps, as after the Barbershop the signal goes to a Radial DI, and from then to the mixer/headphone amp.

The idea is to help me shape and define a bit the tone, specially when I have the Barbershop on.

I've looked around and found this two options that I think might work:

- Souce Audio Programmable EQ (I really like the versatility as i have a couple of different possible setups)
- Empress Para EQ

Any thoughts on them or suggestions of other pedals that might work?

In my experience, the Source Audio programmable EQ renders all other pedal graphic EQs essentially obsolete. You might not get the pinpoint accuracy of a parametric, but aside from that, the ability to dial in and save four distinctly different curves (on top of the bypass mode) simply can't be beat.

My rig includes both the Source Audio on my pedal board, as well as a rack parametric, to serve different but complementary purposes. The SA is to pull up specific tone settings (ie smiley faced for slap, upright, general fingerstyle, frowny faced for rock). The parametric is to fine tune my rig and knock out any weird frequencies based on wherever it's set up.

I recommend the Boss PQ-3B Bass Parametric Equalizer. Really underrated pedal that can shape your tone in useful ways, more precisely so than any non-para EQ (though you can't save presets, it's just knobs). No longer made, but you can usually find one on eBay or Reverb at any given time (for less than the Empress, most likely). Link Removed

I'm a big fan of the Boss GEB-7. There are much more costly options out there, but it did everything I needed, had a built in buffer, and was reasonably priced. I keep one in my case (just in case of weird room acoustics) and I think I have a spare one laying around somewhere from a decomissioned pedal board.

I think you have identified the two best options in each category (graphic/parametric). Me personally, I'd ditch the Radial and put the Sadowsky last using its EQ...

I tried the Boss GEB-7 (still have it on my board), Joyo EQ, Xotic Bass RC Booster and the MXR M81 (also, still have it on my board).
I loved the MXR M81 most.
