I've searched and seen very little talk of EQ pedals. Does anyone here use them?

I just ordered a MXR M108 10 band graphic EQ pedal because I've been having trouble dialing in the right freq. mids that I want.

I did have a preamp with a para EQ but I had trouble dialing it in where I liked it. I recently bought a Hartke 3500 to use at our rehearsal space and with the graphic EQ I could dial in a nice low mid punch VERY easily!

I'm actually interested in a parametric EQ instead of the graphic now

I used to shun parametric, but turns out I didn't fully understand how it worked. I thought they were similar to the ones they put on basses and amps: no adjustable frequency or anything else, just straight low, high maybe mid or lowmids as well.

I still need to mess with a para to see if I like it, but once I figure them out, I think I'll enjoy the adjustability you get with being able to select the exact frequencies you want to boost

+1, if you know how a parametric works you can use it just as a graphic eq, or do so much more. I was used to my Eden's semi parametric and I'm having a hard time going back to the traditional eq on my Glock. I'm still thinking from time to time to look for a parametric pedal or rackmount unit.

I like parametric a bit more than graphic, although I keep one of each on my board (DOD graphic and Boss 3 band semi-parametric). But with the semi-parametric in my SWR head, I find I only use the EQ pedals if I need them to compensate for the other effects.

Not to hijack the thread, but if you're running a parametric and a graphic eq and wanted to run one pre- and one post-drive, which would you do? Or would it be one of those "just try it and see which one you like best" situations (likely)? I would think running the graphic pre-drive would give you easy flexibility to adjust the "character" of the overdrive/distortion, and running the parametric post-drive would still give you all the awesome possibilities that a parametric gives you to adjust your final sound... But I really don't know lol.

I almost bought the MXR 10 band last night as I found one used in mint condition for $69 at a local store. I realized however, that I really dont need it. The eq capabilities on my Eden Navigator are more than I will ever need to get my tone.

In fact, I set the whole thing flat and then boost the mids a tad.

I recently bought the boss ($45 Like NIB). I got it to use in conjunction with my distortion pedal. The EQ is placed after the distortion to give some more bottom end and to reduce the volume of the distortion when it is engaged. It works great. Just have to engage both pedals at the same time. May get a looper to solve the issue.

Agreed. Nice and cheap and not very noisy.

You might want to try using the names of EQ pedals when searching (like the Boss GEB-7 or MXR 10-Band EQ, for example), or the term "equalizer". EQ is too short to be used as a search term in the TB search engine, so that's probably why you didn't see much.

There has actually been quite a bit of discussion about EQ pedals during the time I've been on TB. Heck, I still remember asking questions about the MXR 10-Band.

I'm currently using the Boss GEB-7... but problably not as most do..
i like to boost my lowest (50hz) and some midds... just now and then, i click the pedal, and feel the bass going right trough me, feel the ground shiver and the walls tremble, windows ready to crack and roof comming down.... i like the looks of the guitarplayer and drummer when i turn it on... only just now and then... unexpected...

I just received my MXR today, plugged it up on my lunch break and it's EXACTLY what I needed. I run a RBI pre > QSC power amp and they RBI's mid knob was more upper mids therefore it added a lot more clank than I wanted, now I can boost those lower mids for a lot more punch!

I'll be using it tonight and at my gig Saturday night. I'll report back with any new opinions.

Now that I've tried my OC-3 and it is hardly doing what I want, this is my next option more than likely. :)

used it last night again at a sit down, low volume gig in a VERY boomy room. again, it performed extremely well......nice cutting low mids with no boom at all.

I'll be using it this Sat. night in a very large room that we've played previously that I've had a hard time getting a good sound onstage....I'll do one last report after this gig. I'll try and post some pictures of my settings. The key Freq. IMO are the 500HZ and 250HZ.......and cutting the 2HZ and 4HZ freq kills the clank sound that I despise so much.
