EQ pots value

I'm having difficulty finding 10k log pots, with or without center detents, for a kickass onboard preamp I got myself recently. Depending on my finds, I will get new pots for either volumes (3 required) or EQ (3 band). However, what difference will it make if I get higher value pots? I'm currently looking at MEC pots, 'cause that's what the local luthier stocks, and they're 25K and 50k. Since I'm not sure which pots I'll be replacing, I'd need to know how the higher value will affect the sound it the pot is used for EQ or volume. The "contact the vendor/manufacturer" is currently out of the question, because it's a noname preamp.
 
Also, I know that having many pots in the circuit alters the tone by presence alone. Is that the case with preamps too? All the pots on the preamp in question have low values, because the pickups go directly into the preamp's PCB instead of a blend/volume pot, like on my other preamps.
 
Well, they're all in Texas, 40 euros, 2 weeks, an ocean and half a continent away:D (possibly more than 2 weeks, since the holidays are coming up). I finally ordered 25k pots from MEC to replace the 10k individual volume pots. After all, what's the fun if I don't take a chance once in a while?
 
you could slap a 25k resistor across those 25k pots, bringing them down to ~12k, which is in the ballpark. i have a feeling the difference is going to be in the sweep of the EQ effect more than the amount of cut/boost (but i could be totally wrong on that).
 
What do you mean by "across"?

One lead of the resistor to terminal 1, and the other lead to terminal 3.

This method does screw with the taper of the pot though, but I guess it's better than nothing, right?
