Ernie Ball Cobalts Woes

Thanks for the tip.
Successful install on my Fender Nate Mendel Precision.
First time leaving the exposed core wire on all strings but followed the enclosed instructions. Sound and feel great.

How much time did it add as compared to a conventional install? Was it much of a headache?

No headache at all. Much faster than a conventional install since I didn’t have to trim any of the strings.
I usually trim the E and a little
of the A but leave the D and G as is.
Once I figured out the wind, it went fast. The EB method is a neat way to wind the strings.
I replaced a year old set of GHS Boomers.
The neck required just a touch of relief, string height was fine as is and intonation was spot on, even after setting the witness points.
The Cobalts stay in tune nicely for being new strings.

I've installed EB Cobalt flats on 4 different basses with no issues. I did follow the included instructions on the leaflet. It's the same way I install rounds. No difference.

Never had this issue with mine.

Never had any problem with cobalt flats and I've used several sets in years. Excepting the purple silk wearing off.

I put EB cobalt slinky flats on my Carvin j-bass. No problems whatsoever and they brought new life to this particular bass. Nice and bright but darken to a more normal flat wound thump by soloing the neck pickup and rolling off the tone about 75%.
