For those who regularly use Slinky's how do you find the open E string tone on a fresh install? On a whim I decided to try a set of Hyper Slinky's 40-100 and I found the open E to be overly bright to a point I found the tone when played with pick to be downright grating. The best I can describe it sounded like the midrange overtones over shadowed the fundamental on the open E. I double checked my installation to get twist out the question as well as my nut slot angle, the one thing I found really helped was resetting the witness points a good three to four times, these babies feel a lot stiffer than your avarage string. I will say that now that they are settling in the tone on the open E is improving more fundamental is coming through and the strange piano like quality is subsiding. I will keep them around at least until I get around to replacing them with my usual favorites, im just trying to figure out if I got a bunk string or I messed up my install somehow, so many past threads made it seem like Slinky's would sound dead and useless within a few hours and im finding they're actually way too overpowering and bright and are beggining to sound quite decent as they break in.
