ESP B5E

mine was made in vietnam.
i picked one up about a year ago, online through Samash. I'll get around to a proper review one of these days, but here are some cliffnotes:
-awesome value for money. a pretty neck-though 5 with active pre for 5 bills, c'mon!
-string through bridge, cool!
-good build quality, save for a couple blemishes in the clear coat im actually impressed. (its no bootique tho)
-sounded pretty good out the box, even with my hack job setup, put on some new strings and it came alive (DR high beams)
-I like the EQ fairly well. i can get some pretty good tones out of it.
-it does slap, quite well imho.
-i dont like the bridge pickup. on its own it sounds horrible, imo. but you can blend it with the neck and get a good tone.
-I dont like where they set the bandwidth for the highs, imo it should be lower. theres a funky flatish zone between mid and high that i cant get to sound right with amp eq.

I have mixed feelings about the B5E, which I've had for about a year now. At first, I was stoked about having my first 5-string, all the great features, etc.; and I was especially interested in learning to slap. Well, long story short, I did learn to slap on the B5E and was none the wiser until I picked up a mid-90's used Peavey Foundation 5-string from craigslist for $200. The Peavey, despite its age and being half the cost, puts the B5E to shame, slapability-wise. It reminds me of the MIA Fender Jazz' and Musicmans I play with at GC. I now kinda wished I wouldn't have gotten the B5E and would have just waited until the Foundation came up for sale, but hindsight is 20/20.
I'm no expert on the matter, but now my impression is that bolt-on necks make for better "slappers," and that, on average, MIA bolt-ons will take the competition in this category.
