Seriously - I think I have most, if not all of these when I go.....

I keep all of my mic cables, mics, etc. in the oversized PA rack case along with duct tape and a small flashlight.....all my instrument cables and boxes in my bass head case, an extra strap/cable/tuner/strings, in the back of the guitar amp I load (Fender Hot Rod Dlx).......PA Mixer Box houses extra connectors, some cables. I keep Gig posters and Schedules under the cargo area floor mat to keep them protected and have Sign up list for your email and what not in my guitar gig bag.

A Gym bad in the car has
duct tape
extra cables - instrument - speaker - Mic
flashlight (and batteries)
9v batteries
extra strings
DI Box - Behringer Bass BDI (?) also have used it for vocals right into a power amp in a pinch
electrical outlet/surge protector
extension cords
several Sharpies
Memory Card if you have it (extra)
Leatherman and a few tools
Flashlight
Extra strap
small first aid kit
A Small Bottle of Listerine
Extra T shirt
hand towel
ziplock bag of baby wipes
small firstaid kit
motrin
Q-tips, toothpicks, floss and tweezers (in a ziplock)

I also keep a list of most of the musicians I know through the area, phone numbers and other contacts in that bag. Once, before I hauled the PA - the drummer forgot the mixer, I was able to call a local friend, who had one, and within a half hour, he was there, hooked it in, show went on ON SCHEDULE.

This is my FELIX Bag (Bag of Tricks)

BTW - I haul all of this, a 10 sp rack case for PA, a Mixer case (small), Bass head (4 sp rack) 4-10 cab, Hot Rod Dlx, Golf bag carry case for stands (mic and speaker), monitors, mains, 2 basses, sometimes a cart, Felix, tip bucket, CDs and recorder in my SCION XB
Pretty much like this one

I never gig without my Leatherman/Multi tool thingy.

+1 on leatherman, bonus for models with scissors

also:

fingernail clippers (unless you have scissors on your leatherman)

bass specific tools (hex keys, small screwdrivers) so you can adjust things (bridge, saddle,...) and change batteries

compact bass stand

drum key - small, cheap, and can occasionally bequeath minor hero status when your drummer forgets theirs. Of course if they forget their key, it probably wont' take long to forget you're a hero.

So let's go. Add your own:

duct tape
extra cables (long and short)
flashlight (and batteries)
9v batteries
extra strings
pen and paper
business cards for the band
cel phone
more duct tape
bottled water (so you don't have to pay $3 for it at the bar)

You forgot "briefcase full of beer". In my briefcase is:

6 bottles of coorslight
batteries
X2 wireless unit
Boss geb7 EQ pedal
cables
2 mics
flashlights
old setlists
condoms
looses change
screwdrivers,allenwrenches,linesmans pliers
mechanix wire
pens,pencils,paper
tape
Demo cds
Extra straplox
Nail clippers

Thats about all i can think of now.And yes..it is a tight fit..and yes thats what she...ahh..nevermind.
So I roll in my head n cab, then back out for a bass in one hand and a bass n briefcase in the other.

Ive been using it so long, its just as important as a bass...or an amp.

.

Yeah there's probably already a list like this on the site, but I'm new to the site and just getting back into gigging after several years off. And I don't mean your guitar and amp, etc... I mean all that little **** that everybody needs at some point in some gig somewhere.

So let's go. Add your own:

duct tape
extra cables (long and short)
flashlight (and batteries)
9v batteries
extra strings
pen and paper
business cards for the band
cel phone
more duct tape
bottled water (so you don't have to pay $3 for it at the bar)

Duct tape is for amateurs. Pros use gaffer's tape. Seriously, duct tape leaves sticky residuum all over everything it touches. Gaffer's tape holds better and comes of cleanly.

NO duct tape. Get yourself some gaff tape. Chicks dig it. It's like duck but has a cloth back and better adhesive - no residue. And it's black.

Also, several Sharpies. People always want our singer to sign stuff (and occasionally the rest of us), and she'll bring somewhere between none and one.

I used to pack extra tubes, but now I just bring my Barber Linden EQ and a DI.

If I were single, I'd bring some condoms. Fortunately, that ship sailed long ago.

Ditto on the gaff tape, Our FOH guy won't lets us near his gear with Duct tape. :)
