I would absolutely recommend a clip-on tuner of some sort.
They are cheap and work really well.
Plus, there are no extra cables or power supplies to worry about, and they take up zero space on the floor.
And if one of your band mates needs to borrow it, it's a cinch to just toss it over.
I wouldn't be without mine!
