Double Bass EUB Advice

So here is my dilema. My son will be traveling next summer for a church youth orchestra performing in rural communities, indian reservations, and nursing homes. I'm extremely concerned about this upright bass surviving a trip in a uhaul trailer over the summer. Besides the bumping and pounding of the trailer, there is the heat and humidity.

He plays primarily arco style and plays classical style pieces. I'm looking for something that would sound like his upright bass. Can an EUB meet this requirement? I've read several posts on the WAV4 and I like the price but I honestly don't know anything on the EUB's and would very much appreciate your input. My goal is to get a short list of EUB's that we can investigate. Thank You!!

I don't think an EUB is the right answer for this especially if he's playing with an orchestral group. He would additionally need amplification and getting a decent arco sound and building a technique on that instrument will take time.

Have you considered renting a high quality travel trunk?

Thanks for the link for the Kolstein case. That definately sounds like a great idea. I guess my thought on the EUB was that although this is an "orchestra" playing classical pieces, space in the trailer is at a premium. It will contain a timpani<sp> set, 3 keyboards, drumset, amps, 3 cellos, and a bunch of other stuff. The youth leader is actually open to my son playing an EUB as long as the sound is the same. He happens to be the only bassist in the youth group this year.

If you are more inclined to go with a scaled down instrument the Eminence with a removable neck has a better arco tone then the WAV....

The WAV4 is a very good EUB, but its sound is really a hybrid between DB and fretless bass guitar. The Eminence sounds much more like a true DB. Here's a clip of Esperanza Spalding playing one live:
