Double Bass EUB Bridges

Questions regarding EUB bridges:

a) I have an Eminence hollow body EUB which I want to fit a new DB bridge. l want a total height of the bridge of 4 1/2" (from top of bass to middle of bridge top between the D & A string). Do I buy a 1/4" or 1/2'' DB bridge? I have done research and either are to short or far to long. I do not want adjusters--just solid wood. Would the 1/2 size bridge be to much to cut off the top of the bridge? Or would a cello bridge suit?
Regarding cheap v expensive bridges: is there a great difference in tonal quality?

b) On a solid body EUB does the wood used--ie: maple / mahogany / sycamore / ironweood etc---make a difference to the amplified sound using a magnetic pickup?
Your views welcome.

In regards to your second question, my Clevinger Keyhole Bass has a Spruce Resonator block that has a floating maple bridge wedge placed on top.

the body wood is solid alder (I couldn’t afford the all maple version) It also has a Bartolini pickup that was designed for the bass. I think the wood chosen for the body

has some acoustical properties (think the tone wood used for a marimba) but it’s nothing approaching the actual sound cavity on a 3/4 Double Bass. Just my take though.

Incidentally, at one time I was seriously considering purchasing an Eminence bass, so I contacted the maker and ask him if he would build a maple and spruce version of the bass.
His response was that the cost and labor of making one wouldn’t gain much if any increase in
Tone and volume.
