Double Bass EUB Lessons

EUB bass technique
That's tautology. Just saying, like...:smug:

As to technique, to some extent it'll depend on

1. whether your choice of EUB is at the "bass-guitar-on-a-stick" or the "double-bass-with-plank-instead-of-box" end of the spectrum; and
2. whether you want to learn arco or whether you want to stick to pizz.

Assuming you want an EUB that is closer to a double bass (with curved fingerboard and long string length), and or want to learn to bow it, as others have said a DB teacher is the way to go.

Good luck.

Double Bass with plank!?! :eyebrow: bit harsh that.

Andy makes a good point though, ive always thought that EUB doesnt do Azolas and the like justice.
We need another anacr,anach...word!
EAB - Electric Acoustic Bass or something like that.

Adrian -- only joking m8 :).

Hold on, what happened to double-bass-with-small/medium-box-instead-of-big-box :) ? I'm convinced that (e.g.) Azola's Link Removed shouldn't be dismissed as a plank :)

Andy

Planks can be pretty, Ian - yours being a case in point :)

In the electric guitar world, expressions like "semi-solid", "semi-acoustic" and "hollowbody" are used. I agree that a better term could be found for EUBs with a small acoustic body.

Off-topic, but I think my project EUB is going to be a chambered "plank", mainly to reduce weight a little. I decided to make the body as long as my 3/4 double bass (45") so as to be able to use a standard tailpiece and endpin; and 1 3/4" of mahogany with another 5/8" or so of whatever I end up finding to cap it is going to make it a bit of an anchor I reckon.

You should just take lessons from a double bass player.

When I first bought an EUB, I contacted a few Jazz DB teachers and they were all pretty scathing about EUBs - saying that I might as well get the real thing and that EUBs have most of the difficulty of DB without the one great benefit which is the sound...?

I've since gone on to DB and can see all the points they were making - but I think it could be quite offputting if you don't intend to go on to DB...?
