Double Bass EUB prototype

Some thoughts on how to improve the tone are to mount the pup under the bridge feet with some cork, which allows some movement like an acoustic top. If you ever decide to de-chunkify your bridge, make sure you use straight-grained, quarter sawn hard maple with the grain running perfectly parallel to the top. Upright bridges are about 6" tall but only 1" thick at the foot tapering to 1/4" at the top (all measurements are very approxomate) and can hold every bit of the tension your bass is putting out. On a real upright, the bridge needs to be thin or it will choke out the sound/act like a mute.

That is way cool Pard, I'm researching wood for my Acoustic UB, and starting looking at building a EUB to play and get inspiration from while building the Acoustic. Love the Design, this is by far the best looking EUB I've seen. Great Job.

I love it, it looks great!

I usually "hang around" the Luthier's corner, but thought that I would post my DIY-EUB over here :)

Not everything came out the way wanted it to ( bridge for example ), but overall, it satisfies my upright needs.

The pickup is abunch of Piezo tabs pressed against the bridge. Far from elegant, but cheap (2$ a piece) and good sounding, even bowed. I'll work on a sound sample, if so desired ... ( I am NOT an upright bass player by trade :smug: )
