Euphonic Audio NL 210 Replacement Speakers

The speakers in my EA 210 version II need to be replaced.

EA doesn't carry replacement drivers for that cabinet.

They have offered to sell me an upgrade kit. The upgrade kit is not only a considerable fee but it will change the impedance from 4 to 8 ohm. I bought the cabinet new at 4 ohms to get more power out of the matching EA iamp 500 so that I could have a compact rig with good overhead.

Can anyone comment on replacing speakers in EA cabinets? Is it okay to use another brand of drivers with EA?

Thanks

I think the manufacturer's upgrade kit is the way to go here. With amps getting bigger, they have probably discovered that a 4 ohm 210 is too vulnerable to damage from overpowering (maybe like what has happened to you?) so by offering as 8 ohm only they minimize this risk.

By the time power compression is factored in, the difference in SPL between the 4 ohm and 8 ohm version if the cabinet may be very small as well.

Hello,

I did the upgrade and its really good. I also had the 4 Ohm version and since I upgraded to 8 it actually got louder.
I am very very very happy with it.
But....I also have a NL-210 rev 1 - actually serial number A00001.

The difference between the two in sound is that the new drivers have more presence, are more agressive and a little deeper.
The old one sounds darker and more laid back. I like the new horn they used for slap, too.

If you want to just have the same cab again maybe we can swap? You give me your cab and the update kit and I give you my NL-210 A00001?

I'll be in New Haven on the 28th and 29th, maybe we can meet there?

I had a first version NL-210 a few years ago and had issues with one of the original drivers. It was right at the time they switched to the new drivers so I bought the kit and did the install. I thought the cab sounded fantastic as well and got plenty loud.
