Double Bass Evah Pirazzi strings megathread part II

I need to bow, pizz, and slap. I'm interested in trying these out as a set to do all three. They come recommended from both Lemur and Gollihur. Would the Weich set be the way to go or a solo set drop tuned. Wonder if drop tuning a solo set would be way too floppy. I keep a low action (5mm). If they are super floppy, I could always raise the action. Should just get adjusters, next door neighbor has a machine shop. Cut, mill parallel, bore 0.250 one half, 1/4-20 tap the other sides. Reamers are cheap, got taps.

Ok. So I am thinking of breaking up my Evah set and putting guts on top. Eric Hochberg let me try some guts he had I am digging them. Right now they are on my b bass with Oblis on the bottom. I'm gonna switch them over to my main bass at some point. So the question though. If the gut experiment fails and I decide to go back how well do Evahs respond to be taken on and off the bass?

Should be fine. They aren't like spiros but every set I've had has been used and on and off at least once.

Apparently Evah solos don't like orchestra tuning *at all*. So don't go there.

According to who? I've been using the solo gauge at orchestra pitch for several months now and they are doing a great job for me. I play pizz slap and arco and they are a real good compromise for all 3 to me. They fit right into the middle ground like no other string I've tried. Sustain is not too long or short, not too bright or dark, tension and feel is great. My action is somewhere from 7mm or so on the G to 9 or so on the E. They seemed a little floppy at first right after spiro mittels but once I got used to them and I raised the action a mm or so they feel great. I can't really see myself wanting more tension on there. This is just my opinion however, someone else may hate them. I slap a fair bit and have used nylons in the past so I like low tension and a darker tone. If you want them to sound like spiros, people probably won't like them. They are more towards the dark thumpier spectrum, but way brighter than Jargars and the like. It seems like a lot of people around here think that a hybrid string should pizz like spiros, bow like flexocores, and slap like guts. That just is not gonna happen. I haven't tried the weichs, but my impression is that if you don't slap, go for the weichs, if you do slap, go for the solos.

And by the way, I've been using mine on a folding bass for several months and they are holding up Better than the spiros that were on before. After a few flights the with the spiros I could start to feel the windings when I ran my finger over the strings. After 5 months of touring the pirrazzis are barely any different than when I put them on. I know, I was shocked too. However, Someone else's experience may be different.

I just replaced the Helicore Hybird Lights that came on my Shen SB-90 with a set of EPW I bought from a member here (new).

Wow.

They're still settling in, but I think I am going to love these strings. My bass is much louder, and I can actually hear and distinguish notes on the E string. With the Helicores, the E was quiet and it was difficult to hear the pitch of the note clearly. With the EPWs, it barks clearly and sounds terrific. The other strings are all louder than the Helicores too, and I really prefer the darker tone, but the most substantial improvement I have noticed so far is on that E string.
