I had a black jazz bass with a rosewood neck and a tort pickguard. It had active pups. I could never get a decent sound out of it. I traded it in on some other gear. I hated that bass.

Spector Rebop 5 string - the fret board was rough, neck heavy, and just did not have a lively tone. It had EMG HZ's in it and they were terrible. Even if I swapped the pickups, the bass was just not comfortable in my hands. I had to constantly hold the neck up to play it and that slowed my playing down terribly. I tried a few other Rebops, they are all neck heavy.
The Euro series - with Delano pickups - kick major butt! Way more articulate and tons of sustain.
