Ever found a particular string made the dead spot worse?

I've only had my BB424 since the start of the year. The GHS Boomers (45-105, I believe) that came with it sounded fantastic. I was faintly aware of the dead spot, but only when I thought about it.

First string change, tried some Rotosound Swing Bass 45-105. Great strings, really vibrant, full of character .... but suddenly the C five frets up the G string has almost no depth to it. All shimmering overtones, no meat. Seems worse on the neck pickup. Shame I'm playing in C a lot at the moment....

I guess it's just an unfortunate combination of string, neck and pickup?

Any given set of strings is going to have different mass. It’s not enough to move the dead spot, but adding or subtracting this mass will have an effect on the severity of the dead spot and how it resonates (or doesn’t). You might even find that if you swapped out every string except for the G with a different set, it would effect the severity to one degree or another.

Did you have to adjust the truss rod with the new strings? I have found that a bass with no noticeable dead spots with lighter gauge strings became noticeable with heavier strings that required some significant truss rod adjustment.
