Ever play a gutbucket?

Saw something very similar to this ^^^ in Floyd, Virginia about a month ago. Except the version I saw used a double bass neck, bridge (with pickup) and tailpiece. When I asked the owner about it, he said it was made by "some dude in North Carolina". I'll see if I can locate the photo my wife took of it.
 
See posts on pg.1 of this thread for porting ideas, also of general interest, when attaching the string to the tub end of the rig, use something as light as possible (think of the same principals of a speaker cone assy). I used a flatwound string bass string, and slipped a medium sized washer over the ball-end of the string, then pulled the string up through the hole in the tub. However when I went quickly to a low note, sometimes I went a little too far and got a serious buzz. Solved that with a daub of silicone sealant. My.02...
