Saw something very similar to this ^^^ in Floyd, Virginia about a month ago. Except the version I saw used a double bass neck, bridge (with pickup) and tailpiece. When I asked the owner about it, he said it was made by "some dude in North Carolina". I'll see if I can locate the photo my wife took of it.

Jimmy as memory serves, that's just like the one I played. This was set up with string length so the broomstick was leveraged in/held with foot on the top of the tub. Others I see it appears the stick goes against the tub on the ground. Any preferences out there, for tone and playing comfort?
I've never played one where the broomstick was on the floor, only on the lid. But then again, the only one I ever saw in person was mine 
I guess the discussion should now include as to whether or not to install ports. Somebody ring up Bill Fitzmaurice.

All you really need to port it is a brick to prop it up, but an actual port would be pretty fancy.
See posts on pg.1 of this thread for porting ideas, also of general interest, when attaching the string to the tub end of the rig, use something as light as possible (think of the same principals of a speaker cone assy). I used a flatwound string bass string, and slipped a medium sized washer over the ball-end of the string, then pulled the string up through the hole in the tub. However when I went quickly to a low note, sometimes I went a little too far and got a serious buzz. Solved that with a daub of silicone sealant. My.02...
