Are you sure about that? I was comparing the high weight bridge to the older American series bridge, not a true vintage replica like that found on the reissue basses.

Are you sure about that? I was comparing the high weight bridge to the older American series bridge, not a true vintage replica like that found on the reissue basses.
I have twice replaced the newer Fender HM bridge w/ the previously stock deluxe bridge. I too can hear a difference w/ not not so great ears. To me the higher mass bridges seems to open or extend the tonal range a bit. Playing mostly original blues stuff, I don't care for the extended range I hear. The same reason I prefer SC's over the HC's I've tried. The mids seems to be more present to my ear when I swapped the higher mass bridge w/ the lesser mass bridge.
I would hate for the OP to drill five new holes in his new bass when there is another bridge alternative available. To the OP, try the Fender Deluxe bridge first and you be the judge if you hear a difference or not. My two cents!
Yes i am, i measured mine after seeing your first post...
The high mass is on a Jazz bass 08 and the bent plate is on a 66 Jazz
They measure 1.5mm (bent plate) and just a hair under 3mm for the high mass
I do have a few of the new threaded saddle bridges replica on some basses and they are the same as the 66,
Leave the bridge, and put in the "original P" pup from Fender. I did, and the difference in tone was huge. The MIA pup is much too tame, and much to "wide" sounding. The "original P" is much more "lo-fi" sounding, and has a lot more thump and punch in the low mids.
I like the HMV bridge. It doesn't seem too heavy, is easily adjusted, and everything seems to stay put. If you want less sustain and less high end, just stuff a bit of foam under the strings.
I'm definitely a P with flats guy, but I threw some nickel rounds on my '08 MIA P, and now it's a 70's slap machine. It sounds great with flats too..... but I have my CS '59 P with chromes to scratch that itch.
