I just want to know if there are some people like me who doesnt like the marcus miller sound. To me is very very bright, I mean he is a beast of a player and does incredible stuff, but I dont like his records at all, not my kind of what bass must sound. Having said that I love his bass with a set of flatwounds or rounds in the passive mode.

I hear you man. To me, it seems as though he doesn't really know much about fingerstyle, which is my favorite style of playing. Plus, as mentioned above, slap and pop does get boring fast.
hmm..i dunno, i kinda like his tone but his playing not so much :/
i mean i accept that he is really good but i'm just not huge on slap in general.
i'd say his live tone is probably better than on recording, seems to have more body to it.
also, his studio tone doesnt necesarily have much to do with him himself..

I'm not a fan of his sound. I prefer sounds with more bass and mediums and less treble. I'm not a slap fan...
Yeah, I don't really like his tone either. He's an amazing bass player, and I think that if he tweaked his tone and his style just a tad, he'd be up there with my favorites.

Do yourself a favour and check out Miles "the man with the horn" record - the first cut on it (Fat Times) shows how really, really wrong you are. And that was recorded what? 28 years ago? So he`s much better by now

Marcus Miller is one very versatile bass guitarist. He has chosen to do more slappin', as he, Marcus Miller loves to do that. (It's pure funky n groove) IMO. But early Marcus days with Miles, and even with Luther Vandross (This is where I think his demand in slappin' came from), show's a very finger style-ing Marcus, along with some "thumpin' & slappin''.
And about his tone..
I have been in the presence of Marcus Miller (Live concerts) many, many, many times, most of them being at "Catalina's Bar n Grill" Jazz club in Los Angeles.
I can tell you, that to ME, Marcus Miller's tone(s), is just what the doctor ordered........To me. His sound is unique, when you hear it, you know it's Marcus Miller.......on a Fender Jazz! One of the most beloved sound in the world!
I think it's good, that many people are NOT into Marcus Miller. I hope when Marcus writes his music, he is writing it for himself. And if you/me/we like it, good. If not, we move on. There's no need to criticize and man/woman and ART! Language!

I like his playing and his tone but not for myself if you know what I mean. I'm not a soloist type of player though so a bright, out front tone doesn't suit what I do.

Honestly, his sound as compared to a lot of other slappers, is tame! Put him next to Mark King and then tell me who would make you cringe more?
