Specifically, it's made with raw cable that's very high capacitance. Which could be done for dimes on the dollar since a lot of crappy cheap cable is higher in capacitance ; }

Yeah, so if you want that tone, go to Radio Shack and buy that cheap coiled cord. That should be plenty dark sounding!

Of course this is mainly of importance when using passive pickups with no preamp or buffer (you knew that, but maybe some still don't get all this).

It had to be their intention that it would used on passive basses. Why else would you use wire like that? Their regular instrument cables sound fine. I used one for about 20 years.

Me, if I want less upper-mids and treble - which gives the impression of more bass - I just change my hand technique or use EQ - or use enclosures that are voiced more like that ; }

Yeah, me too... I switch the neck pickup, and play more over the fingerboard. I might even roll off the tone control... wow, what a concept!
