EVM15B Pro-Line or Series II for an Ampeg B25 head?

Hi all,

There's another thread I created about reconing the EVM15B, but bottom line is that someone locally has a few of the Pro-Line versions of the EVM15B they're looking to sell.

I assume the Pro-Line is essentially the same as the Series II EVM15B but having a higher wattage limit? Yes?

If so, do you think this higher wattage rating (400W) would be less desirable than the 200W Series II to use with an early 70s Ampeg B25 head? Being that the latter is 55W, I was thinking the Series II would match up to it better, wattage-wise.

Not going to be gigging this rig, just for home use. I plan to load it into a TL606 cab, FWIW.

The only difference is the Proline has some sort of coating on the voice coil. AFAIK it really does not make it a 400W driver. Probably safer to treat them as a 100W driver for bass.

Correct, and for years the factory series 2 recone kit was only available with the PL voice coil.

For bass guitar it's good for roughly 150/200 watts rms with a modest HPF. Without a HPF I would recommend between 100 and 150 watts.

I know from busy gigging years in the 80s that a 400RB through a good 215 absolutely stomps. The b25 will sound very different and also great!

Unless it was modded, the B-25B is a 16ohm head. I owned it and its matching 2x15" for many years. I think a 15" is perfect for it, but that's me.

I have a '78 B-15S with the 200 watt EV Series II and it sounds great. Essentially, the B-25 isn't all that different outside of impedance requirements. I pair mine with a single Ampeg 15E from time to time -- so the either EV option could yield good results.
