EWS Stormy Bass Drive

I saw the demo too, sounds way better than the Grizzly to me. I just could not get on with that pedal, but I shouldn't be surprised as I had exactly the same experience with the Holy Fire, which it's based upon!
I think I wont be able to resist this, demo sounds great, small form factor is super useful for my mini gigging board.
Just ordered mine today! I'll post a little review when I got some time next week or sooner
It’s strapped in! Let’s get into it.
The sound is great. Most important things are here for me:
-Going back and forth with the pedal on and off, the low end is still there which is a make or break for me. Love that.
-The big drive knob has a lot of versatility, yet it isn’t super sensitive in a good way. nothing worse than taking your pedals out of its case and not being able to get that perfect spot again without tweaking a million times.. no problems here with that
-size is wonderful and it’s got some solid weight to it. built like a tank and fits next to all the others on the baby board.
-doesn’t get super compressed as you push the overdrive which is great cause i already have a compressor, but when you crank it, it’s a very controlled grind.
next aren’t really complaints. they’re just things i’m gonna learn more about as I use it at gigs, but from my impression of it now... this is what i’m thinking:
-The 3 way switch is great and there is some tone shaping happening, but I notice the normal setting and the mid cut switch sounding not dramatic enough for me to use one over the other. on the other hand the mid boost is absolutely my favorite out of the three so no biggy. it really adds a nice fat bump without any overwhelming coloring.
-the tone knob is something to lookout for. I like my overdrive to cut, but you can over do it with the tone knob if you have it too high. It really brings out the sharpness of the overdrive if you aren’t careful, but because it’s a smaller knob that doesn’t turn too easy, i’m gonna set it and forget it.
-the overdrive sound to me isn’t super subtle in the first half of turning the knob. in full transparency, I like a little grit to go along with certain songs and especially cause most modern pop music that uses electric bass has a level of overdrive. it’s a very texturing thing and sits great in a mix. I notice once you get to a certain point around 9 o’clock, I’ll have more than a good amount of overdrive than i’d need, leaving the rest of the overdrive section to be overkill IMHO
There’s not a whole lot of options getting into these smaller pedals, so it’s nice to see a cool little box that’s had a lot of thought out into it. The company makes a wonderful pre that i’ve used in the past so it wasn’t hard to trust the name and quality pre-buying. this thing is great and id highly recommend it to anyone lookin for a nice overdrive let alone a tiny one. will come back after a gig with it and let y’all know more of what I think.... we’ll, if my gigs don’t get cancelled, i’ll let you know
