Exercise/practice for moving across strings

New to bass but decades of guitar experience. There are some things that involve multiple strings in succession (e.g., the basic riff for "Good times bad times" or even "Hotel California") that are very easy for me to play with a pick, but when using fingers they kind of "stumble". Are there any basic exercises I can work on that will help improve this technique? It seems like the finger I start the riff with plays a role, but not sure how to approach practicing this.

Extremely common problem early on. It's a completely new skill. You need to go back to square one again.

Slow it down, go over & over & over it until it's note perfect and you can play it on autopilot.

Learn how to play the same passage with several different types of fingering patterns. You'll have your favourite methods now but new finger patterns take ages to become proficient at. Totally worth the time & effort - You'll be glad you did it.

There's nothing wrong with you. :D

It's just a new skill. I'll check out some links in this thread when I get a moment. If none of them cover what I use I'll come back and describe it for you.
