Exp. pedals for Moogerfooger?

I can't seem to find a definitive answer on this. I am looking for an expression pedal to control the cutoff on my Moog MF-101 low pass filter.

According to the manual, an expression pedal for the MF-101 should contain a 50KW or 100KW potentiometer. That would be great information, if only the expression pedal makers would give me any clue as to what potentiometers their exp. pedals contained...

The only definitive "these are guaranteed to work" pedals I found were the Moog 201 multi-pedal and the Moog EP-2. The 201 is too expensive and too big for me at the moment, and the EP-2 get a lot of negative reports around the web. Are there any other alternatives?

Thanks. :)

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll be getting the EP-2.

The negative reports comes from all over the web. The majority of the threads on expression pedals I found were regarding it as a cheap piece of plastic which breaks or starts making noises like hissing after extensive use. We'll see. :)

I have a ep-1 and an ep-2 and the two is better but both work fine. I use em for cutoff and amount on my MF-101. I use an EV-5 for another pedal, it is smaller and has less travel I think than the Moog pedals, the EP-2 uses string and is pretty smooth. As far as cheap, they are fairly sturdy, I wouldn't stand on top of it with all my weight or something silly like that but it should be fine if you take care of your stuff.

If you are really interested in super sturdy, I know it is a fairly common mod to turn EB VP Jr volume pedals into expression pedals. Im not sure of a specific builder but I have heard of people doing that so, something to look in to.

I use a crappy plastic Proel expression pedal to control the LFO on my MuRF. It's very similar to the Baspeco and I paid about 10 bucks for it used. Works great.

Shameless Video Plug. you can see the Proel sitting on my leg on the left of the screen in this here Youtube vid I made, again controlling the LFO. I just use by hand since I'm sitting down.

I swear I say this in every thread about expression pedals, but a modded EBVP Jr like Zerstorte Zelle mentions is an excellent idea. I had one made for me through Toneczar a long time ago when I owned effects that used expression pedals. Worked really well and was easy to repair if it ever needed it (it never did).

That's one of those things where if Ernie Ball pulled their heads out of the arses you wouldn't have to have them modded. Their volume pedals are Sherman Tanks and popular,...it's dumb founding that they don't make expression pedals (although now that I think about it I doubt I'd pay upward of $100 for an expression pedal).

Old thread, I know...

@ Zerstorte Zelle:

I'd like to know how you modded your EB junior.
Switch the whole guts, including the attenuator on the side? Will the EP2 pot fit into the EB?
Do you have pix showing the mod?

Ive had some great success with a modded vp jr. I had an ep2 and it got super crunchy and overall inaccurate quickly.

I used it's guts in a vp jr and couldn't be happier. Worked so well I'm going to make another one.
