Experience and opinions about Rotosound Nexus strings

What do you folks think of Nexus strings. I was given these by a friend. Are these meant to be similar to and/or compete with Elixir's coated strings?

They are coated black and each string has a different colored silk.

They don't really sound coated. Which is a neat trick. They have a pretty rich and punchy character.

The coating isn't very durable. If you play a lot with a pick, it may wear off. The coating will wear off on the under sides of the strings, where the frets contact the string. So, its not recommended to try and re-use them or swap pickups or something. As you will see the wear spots from the frets.

The coating has a pretty smooth feel. Much easier on your fingers than many normal strings. Less finger noise. A little less clank.

The tone didn't really last longer.

I have no experience with them, but I do use and like the Rotosound Ultramags, which are the non-coated version of the same Alloy 52 (nickel-iron) roundwound. "Rich and punchy character" that @Toptube mentioned above comes from the highly magnetic nature of the special alloy.

Bumping this to see if anyone here has additional experiences with the Nexus strings... I can get these pretty cheap, but unsure if they are worth it (could just pay extra for Elixirs, a known quantity).
They sound okay here:

I saw this by complete chance the other day. It has been a few years that I switched to the .045 nexus string sets from Rotosound rs66ld (stainless roundwounds) to all my bass with 2 exceptions where I use flat.

Compared to the rs66, they sound a bit darker but it is very similar to how the rs66 sounds after a bit of breaking-in.

In my case they have lasted a decent amount of time, considerably longer than the rs66. Also due to the fact that I have multiple basses that are not always in rotation, they do not "age out", meaning that they do not deteriorate over time on an unplayed bass (I find that all normal bass strings do that).

Last but not least, unlike another company with black coated strings, these have a hex core which gives a more taut feel in my experience. Two of the instruments I use utilize alternate lower tunings and these strings handle that very well.

Unfortunately, they do not offer them in that many gauges which could be a problem for some.
