I worked for a company that imported instruments and accessories from China and I'm sorry to say I have the answer and it's ugly: prison labor. Not kidding. Wish to God I was.
who doesn't use prison labor? we have forever, and look what Goodwill types do to the handicapped. getting caught up in a typical moral debate is pointless, is it a playable bass or not?
I think @arbiterusa brings up a relevant point. Some people do try to avoid purchasing goods made by prisoners, slaves, children etc. There is such a thing as voting with your pocketbook.
Wow!!!!. This got dark quickly. That was even quick for THIS crowd. @B-Mac cheap labor and cheap materials are the answers. Nut we don't have to get so serious about it.
moral outrage forever has gotten us where? if anyone uses an electronic gadget they're culpable to having destroyed countless lives with no end in sight. sadly, there's really no avoiding it while too many will excuse anything in support of it. most of us have foreign made basses and make music, maybe even make money with them, who knows the horrors behind it all to our benefit, now what?
Now what what? You're arguing that because you own a cheap Android cell phone, that makes you a hypocrite, so you might as well go all-in on slave labour? You're definitely on track for that sociopathy badge. What does it look like? An iron-on Hannibal Lector style muzzle?
Waving your offended freak flag on a bass forum in a thread about cheap basses makes you no less of a sociopath if his reaction is sociopathic. Quoting the definition of sociopath. "a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience." Nobody got sociopathic here. So, relax. Let it go. Go yell at your neighbors or kick your cat. Hitting a pillow helps, I'm told. Either way, the question in the OP was not an excuse for everyone to get on his/her high horse. If you don't approve of these basses, don't buy one. If you think cheap labor is how they are so cheap, say so and move along. Don't drag everybody down. Let's all take a breath. We need to find our collective zen place.
I'm not offended... I'm genuinely curious at this point. @Bass V rolled out an interesting argument, and I'd like to understand why he thinks the way he does, and whether this mode of thought is typical in the US.
there are a lot of things for sale on the internet that i can't figure out how they make their money back. does that price include shipping?
