Ext. cab or Brand New Rig?

My dilema:
My combo is not strong enough. If i add an extension cab, my baby goes from kicking 350 watts to 500 watts. Thats my ideal amount of power, but at the same time I wonder if I should upgrade to an actual rig instead of a faux Fender 2x10 combo.

If getting a real head is your answer, any suggestions?
I play rock/metal and don't wanna go over a grand...

Tough question. For metal, you would greatly benefit from a second 210, but IMHO, 210's need to be stacked vertically for max throw, max mid dispersion, and just to get a speaker aimed closer to your head so you get a more representative sound than sitting it on the floor like a 410. Fender makes a 210 that would go very well with it, but it might look a little strange to you to stack your combo vertically. Wouldn't bother me in the least though. Maybe you could stack the combo on its side on the floor and stick the extension cab on top, and then at least it would balance.

And another thing to think about is their top-of-the-line heads now use the amazing TBP-1 preamp, which is one of the finest preamps I've ever heard.

So if you're happy with your tone as it is but you just want some more oomph, I'd keep your combo, put it on the ground and stack it sideways, then put a 210P on top stacked on its side in line with the speakers in the combo. But that TBP-1 is a force to be reckoned with, so if you decide you can't live without it, start from scratch

One advantage to buying a good extension cab now is, even if you get rid of the combo latter, you still have a good cab and are one step closer to a good rig.
