Extension Cab Help

I have a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 12T (combo with 12 inch cab), and am looking for an extension cab so I can experience the full 600w at our next gig. Unfortunately, GB discontinued the match to the cab I have, and all their other products are out of my budget. Could anyone recommend a good substitute for no more than $500? Also, would 2 10's sound good in combination with my 12 or should I just be looking for something similar to what I have? Any opinions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Give Jeff a call at the factory, he may know of a dealer who might have one, or look through the dealer list on the website and call a few, maybe you will find one. Otherwise, you could look for a used one here in the classified forums, on E-bay, or you can also look at the extension cabinet in the series 2 line. It's the same size, different driver but shares the same basic tuning profile as the original and will perform just as good as an extension cabine, maybe even a shade better. It's fully compatable performance-wise. If you don't like the lighter colored grille, you could take it off and respray black (use a quality semi-gloss Krylon paint) to match your old one (which is actually powder coated but this will get you close enough).

Thanks for all your input. That definitely steered me in the right direction. I know it's pretty subjective, but would adding a 210 be a waste of money, or could it give me an interesting change in the tone of my rig? I haven't really ever seen rigs that were composed of a 12 and 2 10's but I'm still open to the idea

I thunk a second STL 12 would work out better in your case as you already have one and like it's performance & voicing.

Nope, I could only guess and it would be a crapshoot at best - your best bet is to save your money until you can afford a second Genz-Benz STL 12 cabinet.

+1

The question of what is the best way to go is a general subject of hundreds of threads. To summarize, the best extension cab would be another 12 like the combo has already. That is my recommendation as well. On the subject of what non matching cab will work well is a subjective one. There are lots of choices, but do consider the shear number of threads that cover mixing driver sizes (it RARELY works well). IMO stay away from non 12's (such as the 2-10 you mentioned) as mixing driver sizes without bi-amping with an electronic crossover (and two power amps) is not recommended.

In short, be patient and seek a match to what you have (or as similar a 12 as you can get).

Best sounding cab I ever owned was a Bergantino 322, basically a 2x10 with one 12. I'd still have it if it weren't for my back problems. So I replaced it with more Bergs - one 12 and a 2x10 in separate cabs. Second best sounding cab setup I ever owned. And yes, I have owned quite a few over the last 40 years.
