Extension Cabs

When you buy a combo and it has capability of an extension speaker how exactly is it sorted for an extension speaker? For example i have a 30w ashdown perfect 10 with extension speaker capability but how would i benifit by an extension speaker?

some combos switch off the internal speaker allowing for a larger external speaker to be plugged in.

yep!, I just looked at the online manual [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] and it says the internal speaker is shut off when extention is connected, so you might want to get a 112 or 210 or 410 etc. if you plan to plug in an "extension".

In your case, you would only have 30 watts to drive a better speaker cabinet. For anything other than low volume, at home playing, it won't do you much good and would be a waste of money. If you just want a better sound at home, go for it, although it's not the best way to do it unless you're getting a good quality extension cabinet really cheap.

Bigger, higher powered combos can benefit from adding an extension cabinet, giving you a fuller sound, a bit more volume and taking some of the strain off the combo's internal speaker. Then you can use the combo alone for quieter things or small rooms, and add the extension cabinet when you need that extra boost.
