...we experimented with brass frets for a while. He later changed them to brass inlays at the fret lines for me. It looks pretty sweet IMVHO.

Depending on the instrument, the added weight can be a blessing or a curse. In my case, I was lucky - it darkened up the sound, increased the sustain and a bit more volume. Of course, there are some horror stories that contrast my experience, but you never know for sure until you try - and it's an expensive experiment.... Chris

Just a note: In the new Bass Bible, i.e. Chuck Traeger's book, Chuck describes a simple way to test the effect of the added weight before actually doing the work.
1. Estimate the total weight of the extension-capos-machine- whatever. 2. Prepare a big C-Clamp to weigh about what you predict. 3. Clamp it to the scroll. 4. Play the bass and decide how the sound is affected!

Kirsten, have you seen my alternate extension solution ? I've found this better than other extension possibilities. You do have to get used to some new fingering though.

If you're in Chicago, I'd check to see if Scott Henrie does extensions. I have heard nothing but great things about his work.

If you're in New York-all of the guys you have mentioned have great reputations. My bias is towards Arnold. If I get an extension, he'd be one of the first guys I would check with.

+1 for scott henrie... he does all kinds of great work for everyone! my teacher always took his bass there and i figured if it's good enough for a CSO player it's good enough for me. i read that you had already decided on arnold which that is great too, but i thought i'd just trouble the water a bit. if you decide to stay local call up scott!

Hey, just to fill you all in on what I decided on - I ended up going with Arnold Schnitzer because I wanted to save some money and not deal with the shipping costs associated with getting my bass back from Iowa.

I'll post photos when I get my extension in mid-July.
