F bass or Sadowsky?

Like I said, I eventually adjusted to the wide string spacing on my F Bass. When I first got it, it felt too wide and the scale of the bass was a bit big....

But now, a lot of other basses feel too small to me. I feel I get a hudge bottom end with this bass and I can play more on an F bass than any other bass...not that that is what makes the bass great.

I have never played a better 5 string bass than the F bass sitting in my gig bag.

On that note, the best 4 string Ive ever played was a Sadowsky J-Bass model, which is in my opinion the closest you're going to get to a Fender sound on a modern bass.

I think the string spacing at the bridge is the same on both. I just got a MV5 to compare to my F and my first reaction is that the F preamp is much more useable and variable. Playability and overall rich tone to the F as well IMO, although I have yet to record the Sadowsky. I do find the Fender-ness of the Sadowsky appealing. There are a few used F's at the Atlanta Bass Gallery too.

I should note that for anyone thinking of purchasing either.....

I have talked to Roger and George that past couple of days (mostly anonymously, but George figured out what I was doing ) and they are both very cool and helpful individuals.

I felt like most of you already knew that, but to those that may not, I beleive that counts for quite a bit. Those the limited choices in what I was looking for. That, and their axes kick arse.

George and Roger are at the top of the heap and rightfully so. Genuinely good guys with excellent products.

I love my F Bass (as my TB nickname says!), I would be curious to try a NYC24 to compare, but from what I experienced with the Sad preamp, it's not something for me perhaps....Got to try again with a Sad!
I think I'm a three band preamp guy!

wow...that bass just took my breath away. no, literally - i stopped breathing for about 5 seconds when i saw that burled maple.

A difference is that the FBass is 34.5" (but has a longer upper horn) and the Sadowsky is 34".

And even though the string spacing at the bridge is 3/4" in both, the Fbass has a nut width of 1.75", compared to the 1 7/8" in the Sadowsky, which makes the overall neck width wider and the string spacing overall feels wider.

I like both, but I think the Fbass has a smaller/faster neck overall. . .

And finally, I think Fbass have a tendency to be on the heavy side, compared to the feather weight of the NYC Sadoswkys.

My BN6 F Bass is very light. I haven't weighed it, but it is probably one of the lightest basses I have owned.

Hmm...my Fbass is more like a tank than a feather. It weighs in at over 10 lbs for sure. I must have not lucked out and got one of the heavy ones, but the tone is worth the weight for sure.

To be fair, a 9 pound F bass is usually a heaveyweight when compared to a sadowsky.

But not really a heaveyweight in general, 9 lbs should be fine for me.

Hey, I am fortunate to own both! I have an ash w maple on both the F Bass and Sadowsky! Basically, the F Bass gets kinda heavy for long gigs and I prefer playibility of the Sadowsky for slap and in the higher registers. The Sadowsky preamp is all the Marcus you could ask for. I also think Sadowsky's customer service is far superior as is accessability. The resale value on the Sadowsky's are also much better, you never know!!
