I found the B style bridges made of aluminium, with brass barrel saddles, to be a quicker response, more accurate note and fundamental, and less compression. This is probably due to the lower mass and density of the bridge materials, and the least number of physical interruptions between the string and the body, for vibration transferral. The A style bridge has more parts in this respect, and of course more mass, both in the saddle structure and bridge body.
Now this, as everything else in instruments, is a very personal and subjective opinion. This is the response I try to achieve. Some players prefer a more compressed sound, which evens out the string response, slightly taming hot and dead spots, but also lowering the acoustic string volume and the overall dynamics of the instrument.

I have purposefully increased the body weight and the neck thickness. These changes produce a better fundamental, clearer note, louder acoustic volume, less noticeable hot and dead spots, and generally an overall tone improvement.
My aim is about 10 pounds for a completed instrument, give
or take a pound.

Regarding weight as a comfort issue, balance is more of a critical factor than weight. I have known many a player with lightweight early 60's Fenders with physical discomforts; this is due to the instruments being head-heavy and unbalanced.

Could have been a special order or that particular piece of wood needed to be carved more, due to some cosmetic defect such as mineral stains or knots, that do not appear on the uncarved neck blanks.

I did notice that the F I played at Gelb had a thicker neck than what I was expecting based on my own FBass. My BN6 neck is Calista Flockhart thin. I love it.

Thanks for chiming in. Are there any other types of Bridges (Hipshot or not) that you are fond of. Theoretically, what would be the runner up in your bridge of choice?

I haven't come across another bridge that I like as much.......yet.
I also really like the simplicity of the B style Hipshot bridge.

Well, I got that F bass. Needed a new set of strings, new input jack, some setup..........

But DAMN this thing sounds good. There are a ton of good sounds, although I know it will take a little while to really know the ins and outs. Spacing is interesting, at the bridge its nice and wide, but the nut is pretty narrow, so at the end of the neck its a little slimmer than what I am used to, but I don't think it will be an issue at all. Also, I totally did not think F basses had this slim of a neck, the ones I messed around with definitely had thicker necks. Slim I like! This is an 03 model, so maybe that is how they are now?

Well, I see no need to try and satisfy a j bass role right now, I have some bonding to do with this ax. I am pretty sure I will keep an F to use, whether it is this one or something different remains to be seen, but these axes are bad to the bone!
