Facebook Weirdness

They still deny using enslaved microphones on devices.
We play a game in my family where we draw words and have forced conversations about something we’d never really buy. First person with a linked ad wins. Last time my wife won with Alaskan seaplane fishing. I’ve won with maple candy and auto upholstery schools. Just pick words and insert them loudly into a conversation. The app doesn’t know you’re joking. Make sure it’s something you would have never searched before. Have fun. As long as you don’t disable the app it will eventually work.

I have avoided FB for many years, and Messenger too. When I get a new phone, I unload or disable all unnecessary apps. I browse the 'net with Duck Duck Go, which blocks tracking.

I hardly ever see ads for anything I don't want to see. Nothing on my phone, either, but I typically try to avoid using the internet on my phone. I use it as a phone, and a camera, and nothing else. Location is off, as well. ;)

the funny part is, my dad doesnt have a FB, uses duck duck go, and I'm the same. I've gone the extra effort to disable it on my phone. I'm not sure if he did.

privacy aside, I find most of social media (not talkbass) to be fairly toxic. It's MUCH better for my own mental stability to avoid most of it. I left facebook years before it was common knowledge they have privacy issues. I haven't missed it. All I have left is reddit and TB. And I avoid most of reddit.

+ Infinity. Never did FB (at first b/c I didn't want some exes to find me). Quit Twitter a few years back when I realized all it did was suck my time and boil my blood.

Biometrics (if you gave a swab for the you know what, they have your DNA), Facebook, Apple, Google, etc Data harvesting, Palantir software (ex PayPal guy) to warehouse and co-relate all the data to measure present and predict future behavior, Wellcome Trust bio engineering, the jab (multiple data points to check reactions), nano technology (the future of bio warfare). Control, control, control. Take heart though (what's left of it after the micro clots), your wearable will let Amazon know it's time to deliver your next round of anti depressants.

Unless you are taking steps to cover your tracks, you should assume everything you do on the internet is public record and will be written about by your future biographers.

Think about this for a second: When history students write about an historical figure, they go through all of that person's papers and letters, to figure out who that person was. We've definitely all had the experience of being in history class, and reading so-and-so's love letter to their spouse, right?

100 years from now, when history students try to figure out who YOU were, they will go through all of your Facebook, Instagram, Gmail, TalkBass, pr0n, chats, text messages, etc. (which will presumably all be archived and cataloged for future generations of researchers).

You should assume everything you do on the internet, or your phone, is permanent and will be available to the public someday.

And yes, that includes the AOL, Friendster, and MySpace accounts you haven't touched in years. Future historians are going to know what MySpace was, and they will surely use this information in their biographical research about you.
This is why it's best today to adopt a Taoist philosophy of being the smallest, least interesting, one of billions, out of the public eye, not a target...basically the opposite of what all the messaging suggestions leading to narcissism say...

You give a time of 100 years from now, fortunately the upcoming solar micro nova will erase all this garbage. If after the survivors hold on to some technology (doubtful without the support systems for technology) someone might find an intact chip and get data from it. But I wouldn't worry about it.

I was at a local establishment. Their bourbon of choice was Bulleit Bourbon. I ordered a Bulleit (def not my favorite) bourbon and coke. Sat down, went on Facebook, and five minutes later, there is an add for Bulleit on my Facebook thread. You can't convince me that they aren't listening in on conversations.

Yes via cookies and trackers. To start with, a lot of websites have facebook trackers on their pages. You can combat facebook cookies and trackers by adding a facebook container extension to your browser. Here's the one for firefox: Facebook Container – Get this Extension for Firefox (en-US) if you use this, when you visit a site with facebook trackers on it, you'll notice an icon next to the component: View attachment 4389534

If you've never used containers before, it works just like it sounds, it keeps facebook inside a software container so to speak. If I were on this site, and then clicked a link to go to facebook, I would not be able to hit the "back" button on my browser, as the instance is now in a the facebook container so that facebook can't follow you around utilizing the cookies from all the sites to see what you're doing, what you're looking at, etc to try and "better understand you". Google does this too (yes, there is a google container as well). I would highly recommend using the privacy badger extension along with decentraleyes for added protection.

I've used FB Container for many months now. No software is perfect, but this works well enough at keeping the digital litter down.

Other countries too!

But only if you sign up for those services. When browsing, you can choose not to leave cookies. Sure, that means you will have to manually log into websites and/or not have the items in your cart next time you visit, but that’s a small price to pay for privacy.

Also, you can refuse to give personal information, or just flat-out lie. FB knows my name, but not where I live, nor my birthday (everywhere on the Internet I was born on April 1). Also, I don't use Siri or any other of the various devices which are marketed as conveniences but are in fact spyware.
