The Factorbird is incredible. I really wish that was a production instrument someplace.

Thank you - I would love to make your wish a reality, but knowing what I would be up against is the problem. I believe anything is possible, but not everything gets the neccessary backing and sales. It's why there are endless P-basses out there.

Me too! While I could probably get used to a Steinberger or similar if forced to, upon first trying one I knew immediately I missed the headstock — but when I tried a Kubicki, it was no-problemo because of the extra wood at the end of the neck for the Drop D extension.

Really comfy and very headstock-like:

You can see how the heel is carved just like a regular headstock-bass.

That might be enough. The mass of having the tuners at the bridge plus the headstock, have to guaranty no neck dive?

Yes, it's a very comfy neck and the bass balanced well with no neck dive. I can't recall the Kubicki Factor basses weight but around 9lbs I'd guess. Not light or heavy - just right! The tuners are very ergo also being tilted at that angle - very intuitive. Although the body finish was pretty thick, the neck clear-coat on the neck was minimal. The finish was mostly gone on my very worn '86 neck and Phil recommended a light sanding and baby-oil.
