Fake/counterfeit DR Fat Beams?

Hey guys,

Just opened up a new pack of DR Fat Beams and noticed that the manual (for cutting the string) is missing inside the pack and the font for the 2nd string is different.

Its my first pack of DR Fat Beams but had DR Hi Beams and Pure Blues.

Are these authentic or maybe fake?

So I put them on and they sound like Fat Beams supposed to sound.

Where were they purchased from?

One thing you can do is to measure those strings from the ball end to the taper at the other end. DR's "long scale" should be 37.75" in winding length (ball end to taper).

You can also post a couple of pics of the strings themselves - one at the headstock and one at the bridge, including the ball ends.

Good to know, wow. To think even instrument strings are counterfeit.. but then again you gotta string fake basses with something I guess.

I already put them on the bass, so there is no measuring but they look and feel like DR strings and certainly have the promoted sound (like the sound samples on their site), so they should be real.

I just was a bit surprised seeing the inconsistent packaging.

Sounds like you're good to go. I wouldn't suspect any fake strings here.

I've gotten DR with that stamped font before. And I think the singles I've ordered have had the same font

I was just checking the old packages for the two sets of DR strings I ordered in the last couple of years. In both cases, I ordered a 4-string set (40-100) and a single B (125).

As you can see, those two single B's are stamped on a generic paper sleeve.

I've definitely seen that before from DR. Looks like they ran out of pre-printed envelopes and just quickly ran off one for that pack. It happens.

If you're really concerned, email them. They're pretty good about that kind of thing.

The list of items that aren't counterfeited is a heck of a lot shorter than the list of items that are counterfeit.

It's the crimping instruction for DR round-core strings the OP is talking about, which is usually found on the inside of the box.

I've been using DRs for years, and love them, but have never liked that the envelopes weren't more specific about their contents, such as the model name and gauge.
How would one know if the strings got mixed up with other models, as they loaded the box?
I've emailed them before, and they said it was to save money.
If they're printing that info on them now, I think that's a good thing.

I also don't like their string packages not being sealed up somehow.
Once I got a set that had about 10 inches of the E string, already clipped off!

Good possibility, this was an open box, or a snafu at the DR factory The set may have had a bad or defective, or missing D string. It was likely replaced but a string from a different lot, or just the sleeve was from a different lot of sleeves.

I doubt it means anything. I use DR Neons, and they changed their packaging at some point -- the outside of the packaging, I mean. The new boxes don't look anything like the old boxes. It makes sense that they'd change the inside packaging, too. And they wouldn't waste a spare string just because the font on the envelope is different.

I'm glad it all worked out, and you bought from a reputable retailer, but now that I'm thinking about it, I don't think I'd buy any strings from ebay, lol...

I've bought lots of strings from eBay and never had a problem with the sellers. I've always gotten the right product I clicked on.
