Fake Gibsons

Heard about that this AM on the radio driving to work. 3,000 guitars worth $18 million. So that computes to around $6k per guitar? I know nothing about Gibson guitars so maybe they're worth that much?
$6k for chinese knock off LP is rediculous. It’s even a ridiculous price for a legitimate brand new stock Les Paul Custom, currently for sale @ Sweetwater for $5,500.

I'm sure there's reason -- possibly even good reason -- for that high price, but not one that has any meaning in my world.
Still: the market is the market. And as long as there are high-ticket buyers, there will be reason to fleece those buyers (see: Steve Martin and the forged art he bought)

Reading comprehension people:
I did read. I also know simple arithmetic as well as doing a little research. $18 mil is hype.

Make no mistake I’m thrilled this contraband was seized and its capture should be celebrated. That said, in this era of exaggerated claims in reporting, a more conservative estimate is likely going to be more accurate and we all would have welcome the news all the same.

Now, if it is proved that this order was addressed to a certain factory address in say Michigan for instance, now that is a story worthy of hyping! JMO.
