Fake Gibsons

Yeah they went by max MSRP for those figures. Not that big a deal, CBP wants some good PR. What you really gotta wonder is…. how many have gotten thru before? How many are out there in the hands of unsuspecting consumers? No way they caught these guys on their first try.

Those are only the ones they've seized. Just this week I saw one for sale online described honestly as a "Gibson reproduction". So they're out there. The crooked installed tuning pegs were a giveaway but I'm sure there's better ones too.

Direct sales from China is usually not a problem as you will pay for what you get, you know it's not a real Gibson. But sales from FB Marketplace, kijiji, or the like, are a different story where some people are paying full price thinking it's a real Gibson.

Buyer Beware.

I only feel sorry for the guitar techs who have to try and make these sleds walk and talk while listening to the buyer telling them, 'hey, it's ALMOST just the same thing and I saved a fortune'.

You're gonna need it.
Yep, all those folks supporting this kind of business model of cheap, junky counterfeit instruments and pedals keep this garbage flowing here.

"Oh, well I don't have any money so this is the only way I can have the Les Paul I deserve, or Darkglass pedal I deserve".... geez

Re: the overpriced street value of the guitars- its exactly the same as how they do it with drug seizures. CBP and HSI include the weight of the packaging of the seized drugs in the totals. There might be 10 kilos, but it's classified as 14 due to the weight of the packaging and the seizure "value" goes up. Using the MSRP to determine the "value" of the guitars is similar to this scenario. Makes it look like a "huge haul"..

What I wanna know - who were the recipient companies that were preparing to sell these guitars?
