Fake Jaco?

Is this legal? He's using the Jaco name on the bass itself.

I'm not sure about this one. I mean, I'm not sure if Fender own the rights to use Jaco's name on a bass exclusivley...

I considered buying one of those basses there until I got my eye on those Squire modified jazz bases.

If you read the description, he says that he made the bass himself! obviously it's not a real Jaco, but it looks pretty sweet!

Interesting. It looks like he makes some nice basses, all 'tributes' to classic Fender basses...If you follow the link to his other pages, you'll see a bunch of other 'Fender' tributes that look to be fairly close to authentic...down to the custom shop logo on the back of the headstock, yet he clearly state they're all made by him.

I'm not sure how long he'll be able to sell these without a cease and desist from Fender, but they're making me want an ol' four string again.

It's definately a Fender hack, but I like them. I would play that red one without a doubt.

Looks like he just took pieces from Fender basses and made a Franken-Jaco-stein bass.

It seems to be quite cheap for a parts bass...looks like a good product but I'm still gonna go for the Squier.

Those look nice. However, it doesn't matter how many disclaimers he puts on his page -- his is clearly violating Fender trademarks, and is opening himself to a serious buttload of legal hurt. Frankly, he's pretty much admitting making counterfeits. If he wants to make "tributes", he needs to do so without making use of the Fender marks.

What is that rectangular thing on that red Fender? I noticed that John Entwhistle has the same thing on his P-Bass (at least i think it was a P-Bass) (In the Live At The Isle OF Wight DVD, which is awesome, BTW). Whats it for?

i believe he means the finger rest. they were on all the real old fenders for a place to put your fingers since it was common to play with the thumb.
