... not much to add other than what has already been said by your bass brothers ,
but i do want to say that i've always enjoyed your posts here on Talkbass .
i hope your remaining time here on Earth is filled with joy and peace .

Had I not read through the entire post by the OP I would have probably thought "why am I reading about Brad dying?" Glad to have continued through it to the end.

None of the decisions you have to make are easy, best of luck on them. As was said, make your decisions clear and organized to spare the family ugliness that can come out of disagreements later.

Parkinson's and Alzheimer's took both of my grandmothers, my father in law died from a combo of Parkinson's and dementia, and Alzheimer's took my mother. It's in my family, my chances of getting them are high. I was very close with my father in law and watching his decline was heart wrenching.

Keep your faith, whatever that is, and live the best life as you can!

So sorry to hear of your health issues. Also sorry that the situation is such that your lady friend cannot take care of you. But it makes me smile that your helmet is going to continue to shine and your sword will be in an upright position right to the end. Soldier on, mate!

Just a word of caution on power of attorney, medical proxy and executor of your will.

When my dad got sick, it caused a very VERY bitter and petty family feud that dragged on for years. By the end, we only communicated through lawyers. If there's any beef between your sister and fiance, it might get ugly. The stress of the situation tends to bring things out. Make sure your will is up to date and very thorough.

I know it's not pleasant to think about, but I've seen friends go through hell like we did because their parents weren't specific. Don't leave a mess for your family to cleanup.

There's no real grace in leaving this world, no matter who you are. I'm sorry to hear of your situation, but I'm glad you have a handle on what is happening. My dad is in his early seventies and has been experiencing dementia in the form of aphasia for about 5 years. There's no guarantee that our lives will fade out gracefully.

Update:

Well this is a bit of a switch in direction. I decided to move into an Inedendant Living 55+ Building. I am in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment, and my fiance is going to move in there with me soon.

So no power-of-attorney for my sister for now.

I'm very happy about this move, and think it's right for me right now.

My longtime friend came over to the house I'm presently living at and installed very secure handrails in the shower, and it's made a world of difference. I don't have my life ruled by fear.

I don't know why I didn't see the first post here until just now, but I was sad to read about your fall, and happy to read your update. Very glad that you have found a solution that will allow you and Leah to remain together so that you can both have the each other. You inspire us all with your courage as you walk this path. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.

I just found this thread. A happy chapter is fantastic. All the best to you for a very slow progression and mostly normal existence with your fiancee. And keep making music. There's no better therapy.
