Oprah Winfrey is famous. Mohandas Gandhi is famous. Barack Obama is famous.

There is no such thing as a "famous double bass player." If there is, it would be Sting but he's not famous because he plays the double bass. Even Esperanza Spalding has a long way to go before she's "famous."

To avoid confusion it might be a good idea to add the source of the information to the items. Every player changes gear from time to time. When you display the source it is more accurate.

I think we all understood what he intended with this thread. These guys are the prominent bassists that most bass players will know of

Dave Holland uses french- and german-style bows, variously made by Freschner and Dorfler. He also uses an circa 1860 3/4-size French flatback. And he uses an Underwood pickup.

Yes, but cats still find them. Neal Miner has Golden Spirals for his D and G.
But this thread is pretty pointless; Ray Brown, for one example, used any number of basses over the course of his career. Percy Heath's bass was called a Guaneri for a number of years, but it wasn't.
